The East African Community Common Higher Education Area
 A Common Higher Education Area is a geographic area that brings together sovereignty states with mutual interest and common goal in the development of higher education characterised by comparable, compatible, coherent and harmonised systems of higher education.

Harmonization of higher education in the EAC context refers to the establishment of a common frame of reference to facilitate comparability, compatibility and mutual recognition of higher education and training systems and the qualifications attained among the EAC Partner States, based on shared views on quality, criteria, standards and learning outcomes, for promoting student and labour mobility in EAC, and hence EAC operating as a common higher education area. Harmonization does not mean each university or country to operate a uniform system, as this would stifle competitiveness, uniqueness and innovativeness of universities and countries.
