The IUCEA membership currently stands at 86 public and private Universities and University Colleges distributed within the five East African Countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. The membership is constantly increasing as new universities get admitted.
Membership Criteria
For the time being, the two main requirements for membership to the IUCEA are that:

The University must be incorporated in accordance with the law of the country in which it is situated; and

The University must be situated in any of the five East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
The kind of membership awarded to a particular institution is determined as follows:

A Public University will be admitted to Full Membership status.

A Private University in possession of a Charter or Act of Parliament will be admitted to Full Membership.

A Private University in possession of a Certificate of Provisional Registration or a Provisional License or a Letter of Interim Authority will be admitted as Associate Member and will participate fully in all its activities, but without the right to vote.

University Colleges which are constituents of fully-fledged universities will be admitted as Associate Members.
Membership Subscription
Irrespective of whether a university is public or private, the following formula for subscriptions based on the number of students registered at the respective university will apply.
